I had posted awhile back about my leaky dobie mix, CJ and her diluted urine. Since then, she's had numerous urine tests and blood tests and everything has checked out normal.
So, afte much deliberation, we started her on HRT. I'm not certain that this is DES. Most everything I read about DES indicates that is comes in the pill form. My vet is using injections of estrogen. So, a week ago, CJ had her first injection and I'm starting to see some behavioral changes which I'm wondering if they are side affects.
First is an increase in appetite. She is eating her same amount to regular food per day and is constantly on the prowl looking for more. She will paw and whine and howl at the dog food bin (until I put it where she couldn't get at it). She's taking to try and eat "unedibles" IE: kitchen towels and toilet paper (by the roll). This is not like her at all. She normally, barely will finish her meals.
The other change I'm noticing is an increase in her cuddliness. Now she's always been pretty much of a velcro dog but is now almost desperate to be near me. If she can't be right next to me (or better yet, on my lap) she gets very upset (whinning loudly and howling).
Could this be from the estrogen?

every thing you mentioned could be from the injection but that is guess work...i never used the injection except possibly for the first intro to the hormones...i always found that DES tablest worked fine after you got the dose regulated, ie the lowest possible effective dose..sometime down to one or two tablets a week....there is a possibilty that the tabs are no longer produced but if so i would still be using them...some vets use phenypropoal9mine (sp) which is fine but difficult to get and requires two to three tabs every day...if DES tabs are still available i sure would try them....

geeze- that dang estrogen...I knew it was never my fault that I was always hungry and lookin for love!

DES is still available. We still fill it and script it out.
