A good friend has a rottie w/cancer - Evie's had a surgery to remove the largest mass, but the vet is telling my friend that there's not much more she can do. My friend is really having a hard time, and I thought of that very thoughtful and helpful essay you shared.
Thanks in advance!

Urge to Herd, Traci and Jason were good/wise enough to post it on this site. Here's the link: http://www.cathelp-online.com/bydavet.html
I agree that this is a great piece, and I hope it helps your friend. Please convey my thoughts and best wishes as your friend is going through this awful time!

Thanks, Mary, for your help. I'll print this out for her and give it to her Monday. And thanks for your sweet good wishes - it's a really difficult time for her.

Thanks Mary and Davet. I have printed this and will keep it close. I just took my cat Susie in for a checkup on Friday. She is 22 years old and is showing her age. I was so happy to hear my vet proclaim that she thinks she still has good quality of life. I get concerned sometimes that I am holding onto her for selfish reasons....(I probably am as I have a hard time imaging life without her). Your article will help me do the right thing when the time comes.
