Read an interesting article on the role of emotions in pet
health this morning. It was in the Fall issue of the ASPCA's "Animal Watch" magazine. I've been getting this for about 1/2 a year, ever since I donated on behalf of my mother-in-law's dog. It was a really interesting piece, and it talked about how it's been shown that having a pet really helps with human health, and that it may work in the other direction, too. It talked about how stress has an effect on the immune system, by increasing adrenaline production. There was a bunch of stuff in the piece that I wasn't sure about, but it did get me thinking about all of this, and it seems pretty sensible at some level. I suspect that if an animal has an owner who loses patience with him or her because of slow downs, incontinence or whatever, the pet can probably pick up on this, and it can't be good for them. It sure seems like Mr. Blue and Carmel are really tuned in to whether or not we're sick, or upset. It also seems like they do their best to make us feel better, then. So what do you think about all of this?
