Wasn't sure where to place this, so I'll put it here, because I have dogs.
There is something in my garage, which I believe is
a rat....and I imagine there could be more than one, and probably is.
Poison is out, in my mind, because of the dogs...the rodent got caught in a sticky trap and escaped (I hate those things also)...and I am honestly a chicken in dealing with a snap trap.
It chewed through a bag of dog food, so I have eliminated that temptation. It is now in a sealed rubbermaid container.
Umm...ugh...rodents

Live trap?
We get mice in our house, regardless...just where we live and an old house...we just deal with them....
We got a 5 gallon bucket and drilled a hole near the top rim on opposite sides...
open a wire clothes hanger and 2 soda cans and drill a hole in the center of the bottom of each can...
run the clothes hanger through one hole on the bucket, through the cans (with the tops of the cans end to end), and then out the hole on the other side of the bucket....fold the ends down so the wire cannot slide back and forth...the cans should spin freely on the wire now....get some duct tape and tape the cans together at the center...
Get a couple pieces of lathe board and hammer a nail through one end, so you can prop it like a ramp up onto the bucket...
smear peanut butter (more for the scent trail) along he lathe boards and prop them on either side of the bucket, at the ends where the holes are drilled and the wire is run through...
smear a LOT of peanut butter all around the center of the cans...
Now when the rodent runs up the ramp and onto the cans for the peanut butter, it will be spun into the bucket below and hopefully not jump out before you can release it far from your house!
If you think it is a rat or something larger than a mouse...maybe a garbage can and longer board for it to run up?...And of course a few more cans drilled out and taped end to end to give it something to walk out onto....

This site says you can catch or release....or add water to the bucket We catch and release...and probably catch the same ones again
