Sore paw
Sore paw
Foxy has a sore paw. One of the pads is raw and pink-I have no idea how it happened, and of course she won't stop licking it. It doesn't look infected, but she's limping. I bought some baby booties and I'm making her (much to her chagrin) wear one when she goes outside and I'm putting antibiotic ointment on it at night when we go to bed (and praying she doesn't lick it off). Any ideas or suggestions to help this heal?

Re: Sore paw
You could try to ask your vet for a triple-antibiotic ointment instead, but he may require to see/examine Foxy before he prescribes anything.
OTC antibiotic ointments aren't the best to use, a triple-antibiotic from your vet would be better. Favoring the leg indicates a painful paw, and without being examined, you don't know how much pain she will continue to be in. A really good cleansing with surgical scrub or similar would be the best, and to check for foreign embedded objects. Wound care is paramount, since it's in an area prime to collect bacteria as well pressure when she finally does put weight on it. An e-collar of course should probably be used, since she might shake off the bootie, and/or may chew it to shreds and start chewing on her foot.
