My Son's Dog, Mozart

Post by Tambrey »

Mozart has been boarding with a friend of ours who does dog and horse training...she is an awesome gal and Mo has fallen completely in love with her and her family...much to her chagrin because she has a 2-dog personal limit ;)

Mo gets to not only board and train there, she has her training dogs be a part of the family, not just stay in kennels, even though he does have his crate there with him for sleeping at night...the dog she is working with at the time lives in the house, and learns house manners, getting along with the cats and her 2 dogs and small kids...go camping and horse back riding and tag along on farm chores with her....all the while learning the "basic" commands and being a part of a family....at the 2 week mark, she starts "training" the puppy's family as well...it is a 6 week process...at least....

But she has noticed in the 2 weeks that she has had him that he does drink an excessive amount of water, drools and pees alot...moreso than what she feels is "normal" for an australian shepherd puppy, so he has a vet appointment at 3:30 for bloodwork and urinalysis to rule out diabetes or to see what is going on with him.....
We did send his own food along and even a couple of gallons of his water that she slowly mixed with her own at first...

Will keep you posted as we know more....

a bladder infection/UTI....poor thing....

the vet put the thermometer in (he had a fever) and he peed all over so they were able to get a fresh clean catch fast there as well....

I am thinking that this was in the works before he went to BobbiJo's because Mom was dog sitting for our son and Mo is a house dog...but Mom did not like to take him out....he was too much dog for her to handle...so she was giving him minimal water rather than making sure it was available at all times....even though I repeatedly got on her about that....

The doctor said for now he will keep him on antibiotics and come back in two weeks and check things again...if he still shows signs of infection or stress then, he will do bloodwork at that time....

I am actually glad he is with BobbiJo as I KNOW she will make sure he takes ALL of his meds as prescribed on time and make sure he gets the rest and fluids he needs....

She just messaged me this
He's on antibiotics and hopefully he's on his way to a cure! I'm so over dramatic! LOL! Vet said he had a slight fever and that's probably why he's drooling and panting so much. I'm going to let him take a couple of days off to rest and get well.

Stress could have initiated the infection. But water at all times is essential.

How old he is?

he is approximately 8-9 months old....my son's GF brought him home about the beginning of December last year when he was about 7-8 weeks old....too young in my opinion, but the guy was wanting to find them homes....so maybe born the middle of October?.....I think she knows when he was born from the guy she got him from.....

He does have ALOT of energy and is strong....very much the "farm dog" and was wanting to herd her children the first day we were there...hahaha....

She got him on her training leash right from our car and sat on the ground with him to let him wander and sniff around some and get to know her two dogs and the kids and cats...but he was used to cats from being at Mom's house....

BobbiJo does keep him leashed at all times when he is with her...well, except in the house, of course...and especially because she is training him, she wants total control for now....she said he learns FAST and is doing beautifully as far as training goes, but then, she said she has never had a problem training Australian Shepherds as they are such intelligent, easy going dogs and want so much to please

but also gives him time to be a dog...he runs on her acreage under her control...on a field leash/lunge line or in a fenced field if the horses are not out there...and she said he LOVES going for rides in the truck...yes...he even runs errands with her and her other two dogs...INSIDE the truck with the extended cab....
