Ultrasound on Tuesday...
Re: Ultrasound on Tuesday...
Dang, now I'm sure it is the nitrofurantoin that is upsetting her tummy. She's only been on one pill per day instead of 3, and she refused to eat this morn and was acting too listless, even for an old Basset. Vet told me to take her off of it for the weekend, and try again on Monday, but I am not sure about that. Every time she starts on it, she gets sick again. What a quandry...
Re: Ultrasound on Tuesday...
If it's only one pill a day, can you try timing the feeding so the effects aren't as strong? I don't recall if nitrofurantoin can be taken with food, but if it can, maybe giving it with the food will decrease the side effect. Or, give her the pill in the morning, and then try feeding her at night. Check with with your vet to see if he has any ideas, or if you can change the medication.

The info sheet says it is not supposed to matter, but if it causes tummy problems to give with food. She has been getting it with food. According to the lab, there is no other medication that will be effective on this ecoli. That is the quandry.
This morning she ate a few bites, but I have to admit I tempted her with a spoonful of macaroni and cheese. She just doesn't look good...

Re: Ultrasound on Tuesday...
It may not be strictly the meds, perhaps she needs to be evaluated again with new bloodwork to ensure something else isn't going on.
