Sammie's Surgery
Re: Sammie's Surgery
If they are going to keep him (say, for around a week), they might start his hydrotherapy as early as this weekend, Sammie will probably love it. I know it's tough not having him with you, but it's good that he has 24/7 post-op care and monitorization. You should use this time to rest, Tambrey, you've been through a lot lately. (I know, easier said than done)

Re: Sammie's Surgery
thanks Traci...I am glad he is getting good care...and being spoiled rotten...hahaha...he just loves everyone and gives kisses to anyone who will look at him...and I know many doxies are not like that...we got very lucky with Sammie...
I know it is better for him there...I am just wondering how I will go get him next week...my husband is on call, so he will not be able to go...and our car has the check engine light on it, so he will not let me drive it...even though it happened after he put fuel injector stuff in it and it changed the computer readings, so nothing serious...and the only other car we have is a standard, and I do not drive that one...
We will worok something out...

Re: Sammie's Surgery
we are thinking that the check engine light for the emmissions control came on becuase he put fuel injector cleaner in before we left that morning, knowing we would be driving interstate and it would clean things out...and when it did, then the engine emmissions readings were different, prompting the computer to let us know...now the light is on all the time and it probably just needs to be reset...but that can only be done at a dealer for buku bucks...
yeah...when it rains, it pours, that is for sure...

Re: Sammie's Surgery
The fuel injection cleaner might have dislodged something, thereby causing the engine light to remain fixed. Unfortunately, you'd have to have a mechanic check this for you (and probably not a good idea to drive it until checked/fixed). At that time, ask the mechanic what type of fuel injection cleaner is most appropriate for your vehicle.

Re: Sammie's Surgery
That is what we are thinking...hopefully nothing serious...so whenever we go get Sammie, we will borrow our friend's car...the stick shift that I cannot drive...I have driven a tractor...I have driven a Freightliner...but I HATE driving a standard car!!
Re: Sammie's Surgery
hahaha...who woulda thought!!...
the hospital just called...Sammie was owly and grouchy today, but the girl said it is probably because she was not his usual handler, Sammie was not familiar with her and here she comes and wants to do therapy with him...but he is on oral pain meds now...I cannot remember what she said...begins with a Z, I believe, and she said it is kind of like a wafer tht dissolves fairly fast in their mouth...
He is also eating and drinking well...
There is slight movement in his right hind leg, but not the left one yet...she did use a towel sling and said he was very happy to cruise around on his front legs while she supported the back in the sling...and by the end of the day he was okay with her being around him and she said once he warmed up to her he was such a sweetie...
Still doubtful he will get to come home this weekend, we are going on his time schedule now as to when he decides he is ready to try to do more moving and so forth...
I also asked her about home therapy since we live so far away...she said she will make a note to be sure the therapist is there when we come to get Sammie so she can go over what to do and some options at home for us...I mentioned the hydrotherapy in the bathtub and the girl had never thought of that before, so will talk that over with the therapist as well...
And of course, once he is home, we will probably have to road trip a few times down there...but for the most part, hopefully we can do most of his therapy here at home...

Re: Sammie's Surgery
You could also find out from your primary vet if he has a larger tub, some of the staff might be doing hydrotherapy at his clinic. Granted, he probably doesn't have an underwater treadmill, but you can "swim" a small dog in a large bathing tub.
