Oh, I was not relying on him for actual medical advice...just curious as to what he would suggest as to what I had gotten here...

I am getting cottage cheese and yogurt today...I have plain at home to mix into smoothies, but he did not like that...I tried spreading some on breead, like mayo, and added some ham slices, and he only ate the ham as long as it did NOT have any yogurt on it...if it had yogurt on it, he spit it out...so maybe some vanilla flavored yogurt...

I will stop by the vet also and see if they have anything else to try...He is drinking water, which is good...

I will keep you posted...

Any recipes for a gruel or something I can make and feed him through a syringe if need be?!

Blackfoot is not even getting up today...he was up this morning for a drink of water, but later on, wet himself and the floor...poor baby

I want to make sure he stays hydrated and does not starve during this time...

I did read on other sites about heartworm and the meds and all, and one site said there is a 95% recovery rate...I am hoping Blackfoot is in that 95%, but right now, he just does not seem good at all...I am worried...even though he is going through every symptom that site said he would go through...

Here is one of the sites
http://ncnc.essortment.com/heartwormdogsc_rgli.htm

I also want to be sure to mention to the vet, when he gets treated for the microfilaria, that he is a collie mix, so should ont receive ivermectin, again, according to that site listed above...

I have treated collies and border collies for at least 15 years using liquid ivermectin. I think the dosages for tosicity are much greater than the doses for heartworm prevention. Just don`t use the proheart 6 injection or a too large dose of any ivermectin form.

Well...it was a sad day today...
We came down to find that Blackfoot had died pleacefully in his sleep sometime Friday night/Saturday morning

He did not look stressed or in any pain...just like he went to sleep and did not wake up...

But my husband told me this morning that he went out with Blackfoot lastnight and told him it was okay to go if he wanted to...I had done the same thing when I went to say goodnight and make sure the heater was okay for the night...

Thank you for all the prayers and words of encouragement...I know Blackfoot did not feel good at the end, but I do not think he was in distress or pain or he would have let me know...

Thank you, Marty....yes, I was hoping and praying he would pull through, but I guess God had other plans for Blackfoot...I guess Bryn and Festus decided they needed him to come play with them...they were the yellow and black labs who were Blackfoot's older yardmates...
They are once again romping together...

Tambrey....I am so sorry for your loss. Blackfoot put up a good fight and I think you and your husband were right in letting him know that it was ok to go. Sending you and your husband hugs and prayers. He is now running and playing pain free at Rainbow bridge till you meet again.

Thank you Joy...It was hard to do, but I knew I did not want him to try to hold on for me...I gave him hugs and cried, but I felt at peace with him and I think he felt that too, the way he looked into my eyes...
