Sammie Goes to the Vet

Post by Tambrey »

Well...I came home from work tonight, Sammie was sitting on the couch on his blankie...his face looked funny....I went to look and there is a puffiness under his left eye, like maybe a bad tooth, or stuck dirt....
Soooo he gets to go to the vet first thing in the morning....good thing hubby and I both planned the day off...just no sleeping in now :(

Sammie was digging....and chewing  ...in the dirt and mud yesterday and made a pretty good dent in the area of the yard he was in, so I am hoping maybe he just has a chunk of grass or dirt that got stuck in between teeth or under his gum, or maybe injured his gum somehow biting at the dirt like he does all the time...doxies LOVE to dig, unfortunately....

While he is under getting his mouth looked at, his nails will also get a good clipping....he HATES that and it is a MAJOR screaming battle with him every time for some reason....

And it is time for a teeth check and cleaning anyways...

Will let you know more when we know more.....if he seemed to be in alot of pain, he would have gone tonight....but he is still eating and running and jumping all over the place as usual...not acting lethargic or mopey...it was just tender when I touched it and he let out a littte yip :(

And for his digging habits this summer, he is getting his own special "sandbox" made with a mixture of clean sand and good soil mix dumped into a dug out then raised a bit contained box area....he can DIG to his hearts content and not damage the entire yard, or get clumps of grass and clayey soil stuck in his mouth, teeth and nails for me to have to dig and clean out every time he comes inside...a friend of ours did this for his doxies and they LOVE it and so does he...he said it has been a great yardsaver and gives the dogs HOURS of digging pleasure...and the mixture just sort of fills back in as they dig it out....his is maybe 12 inches deep...

That's what they are all right - digging badger dogs! lol I didn't have my doxie mix pup long enough (had to rehome him because of a family crisis) for him to do this, but always think of him when I see Sammie. Hope your sweet little guy is okay.

darn...I did not see your post Traci until now....we dropped Sammie off, went to a garden show all day, got home and did some stuff and I have been playing with more pictures, after answering davet and you earlier on the photo thread....

Sammie had 2 teeth that needed pulled, the one was abcessed so he came home with a 7 day, twice a day, suppy of Clavamox tablets, starting Saturday AM, so I am assuming he got a shot there...

There is still a bit of swelling to keep an eye on, but it was not as bad even this morning before we went as it was lastnight...however, if it does not continue to go down, we will revisit and check again.....

His nails are also nice and SHORT again too....

We got there after hours (hubby has a key since he is the computer guru)...and there were 3 kitties that had gotten declawed and were there overnight...one was still lethargic and sleeping, one was stretching in the litterbox and the kitten came right up and was talking to us and trying to reach out the bars of the kennel at us...I felt so bad for them....I do NOT agree with declawing :(

There was also a dog there...and I think/i] it was Rocco, our friend's dog, because there are not too many Min Pins in town....he was on an IV drip....he seemed awake and alert, but just laid there with the IV in his front leg...he was on a heating pad, too....so I hope Rocco is doing okay....I will have to call our friends tomorrow and ask about him.....
I know they recently had a house fire and Rocco was staying with other friends while they were doing cleaning up....

It looked like a tech was going to be coming to check on him on a regular basis as the IV drip was a little over half done when we were there, and there was a medical bin sitting on a nearby table with tubes for drawing blood and other vials of medications....I was not nosy....but I am sure it was there for whoever the poor dog was.....

Glad to hear the teeth were discovered and removed, the swelling should reduce considerably in the next day or so.
