I had another heart attack yesterday. I was getting my supper ready and after eating I was going to feed the kids and then spend the evening with them. I looked outside to see what they were up to and saw that Spartan's e-collar was covered in blood!
I rushed to their room and it too was splattered with blood, my first fear was that Sparty had vomitted up blood, but looking at his collar the blood was all on the outside. I noticed that Nick was wet on her head and checked her out. My poor baby had somehow sliced off a part of her ear. It's about two inches long and bled a lot! She must have done it sometime in the afternoon as it was almost done bleeding. She is okay, but it took all evening for my stomach to calm down. She yelps everytime something hits her ear, and with Spartans limited vision he is hitting her with the collar too often. I am going to keep a close eye on her, but I think she will be fine.
Poor Nick!
Re: Poor Nick!
OHmygosh...I would have felt the same. Hope Nick heals up ok.
Am I reading you correctly, she had 2 inches of her ear sliced off? And your not getting her to your vet? Or do you mean her ear is 2 inches long, but how much was taken off?
If this is what you meant, you need to get her to your vet immediately so he can clean the wound, suture it closed, and prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection. Whenever it is hit with something, brushed up against something, if she shakes or scratches her ear, it's going to start bleeding again, not to mention the potential for infection if it hasn't entered already.

I was going to take her in, but there is nothing to stitch. She has a cut about two inches long on her ear, but there is nothing to stitch together. I was worried it would start to bleed again if she bumped it, but it hasn't. I will clean it myself today, I didn't want to risk it bleeding again yesterday. I will be phoning my vet for antibiotics to be sent to me.
Re: Poor Nick!
if your vet says come on in----go----cause this could become a cronic open fistulas lesion

Re: Poor Nick!
Nick is doing well. I called the vet and she said to come in if there was any sign of infection. I managed to get the ear cleaned with hubby's help and it looks good. I wish I knew how she had done this. It's the second time! Last time wasn't as bad and there was no piece missing and it healed very well, but I can't have this happening again. I went over their room with a fine tooth comb and couldn't find anything. Nick and Meka to have their occasional snarl fests, but I don't think they would go so far as to hurt each other, and they usually only do it when one of them is getting into their petting space close to me. I am at a loss.
