My freinds puppy might have cancer and she is freaking! HELP
O jeez I feel so bad. Freind lives down walking distance and she has two Labs. One about 2-3 yrs and hte other very old. She for christmas just got 3 new ones. One lab and two goldens, all young. Think they are like 6months, 6months and 3months.
The one female she said she found a ball about a bit smaller than a half dollar right on her throat and it was hard. Hard hard hard! (I swear I checked that dog not more than a month ago and it wasnt there) She said she found this over hte weekend. she brought pup in today to vet and he took a needle to it and yellow liquid and some blood came out. She said that they wont know anything for about 2 weeks. She was given antibiotics for the pup dont know what yet will find out tomorrow when I go over to see pup. I want to see this for myself maybe even take a picture for filing. This is a petstore pup and they will be paying for the treatment as they have a contract saying that there is a year guarentee. Freinds name is Nan and she wont give the dog back because she knows she'll be put down or atleast fears it. Nan will do what ever it takes to help the dog and so will her husband regarding chemo and what not if it is cancerous. So there is no difficulty there finding out what she will and wont do, this is their pup and they are just so upset over this and so am I.
Is there anything anyone can tell me about this ball? I told you everything i know as of right now. The antibioctics are being used to see if this is an infection that is goes down.
OMG I feel horrible, this is just a small puppy.

I'm assuming you're talkking about one of the pups, yes?
Where exactly on the neck was the lump discovered? Was it a lymph node? Did the vet rule out lipoma? (lipomas are usually harmless) Did the vet check inside the throat?

Yes one of the pups.
She said it was on neck right where a mans adams apple would be. But i am going there tomorrow to check and I actually want to speak to her vet anyway.(we dont use the same one) I love her to death but would rather hear about the dog from the vet not 2nd hand. I do know the vet is very good and that atleast helps me, because I can go in there knowing that what I ask will get explained not ignored. Just hate when they try to pull that crap with me. LOL I know i'll get more and better details once I see puppy and talk to vet or atleast see what he wrote. I'll get the med's too. If I can get a good picture of it i'll take a photo to post. I do hope it's nothing but we are all ready for the worst and will do what needs to be done. I told her that if I can help in anyway with watching the kids or what ever I'll do it. I have never had to deal with a dog going through that so if teh pup has to I dont know how bad it can be.
I'll have to find out her name as well. 3 new pups and I cant keep them straight. think it's Honey.
Traci thank you!

It would be rare for a pup to develop a cancerous growth. The (I assume) cytology or smear shouldn't take two weeks, the vet can call after a week and try to expedite the results.
I ask about his checking inside the throat because as you know, pups and dogs chew and swallow everything....there may or may not be a connection.

Updating this post as well here.
My freinds dog finished those antibiotics and the mass is gone. I asked her about the results from the biopsy and she said she still didnt know. It wasnt that it wasnt back yet just that it was going down and she didnt think it was nessesary to find out what it was since it was going away. SO i got angry as I usualy get (lol) and said that I wanted to know because that was the Tech in me and that i would find out.
Puppy is on medicated shampoo and o my god has so much dandruff, i have never seen drandruff like this before it is huge flakes its so horrible. I was clipping her nails and jesus the flakes are all over the place. Nan was so embarrassed about it, i said not to worry about it but as long as the vet is doing something for it. She is being treated with meds and shampoo but dang I never saw such an amount.
I have to find out what she is feeding them, she has 5 (well taken care of) and well i think she is feeding them all the same. And one is old and the rest are like young. So that doesnt do well for me.
She says her older female went after the puppy (6months) and she got her off of her and i explained to her that older dog gets everything first this is a pack order and she must obey it. shes the leader and then the dogs in order of who was there first. I told her that I would help remind her of this since she doesnt think she can do it. I told her that she must or that one day she'll come home and find the older female has hurt puppy bad. I hope that got through to her.

For the puppy with dandruff, make sure she knows to rinse the shampoo off thoroughly. Any residue could aggravate the problem. She might want to add some salmon oil to his diet also.
