]My sister lost her poodle and other dog alone[/b]
I sure hope someone can help my sister. She recenly lost her poodle and the other poodle is alone for 4 hours in the morning after she goes to work. She does have a dog sitter for the afternoon. She is very worried as when she gets home or when the sitter gets there, the dog whines and pants and is excited for awhile afterward. I keep telling her he'll be ok. Has anyone else had this problem? I keep telling her that he's only alone for 3 hours in the morning. He always had a buddy as the other poodle was always with him and I feel he'll get used to it. Any advice? I'm new to posting and hope this posts in the proper place. PS The other poodle died 3 weeks ago......[/b]

I am sorry for your sister's loss of her poodle...it is always sad when a beloved pet dies...
pets become attached to each other as well and can mourn the loss of a playmate or littermate...it has only been 3 weeks and the one left behind is having to go through alot of adjustments...
It would not hurt to take him to the vet just to make sure he is physically okay...
it is great your sister is able to have a sitter come in for a few hours so he is not alone all day long...
she just needs to give him time to adjust and mourn as well...if he does not come around soon though, I would take him back to the vet to be sure there is nothing medically wrong...
again, my prayers and condolences for the loss of her dog...

I am sorry to hear of your sister's loss. I lost a dog in Dec, and Biscotti did seem off for a while, although we are home with her. It was suggested to me to try a pherenome (sp) diffuser which can be bought at pet stores. I didn't get one, but did bring another beautiful dog into her life a month later...not for that purpose intentionally, but Bisc seems to have snapped out of her funk, and now has a new best friend.

Marty...yes...thanks for mentioning the gorgeous new girl in your life...I had thought I mentioned something about in time...another month or so...to consider bringing another poodle into the home for him to become best friends with....
