The strangest thing just happend to my dog.

Post by Nancy (Spuddie' s Mum) »

My old Pom that we adopted about a month and a half ago just had a very strange thing happen. We were sitting out back on the patio, we had only been there a short time when I noticed her sitting on my foot and her ears were trembling. At first I though she was hearing thunder or something and it was scaring her (my other dog is afraid of thunder and shivers like crazy). Then I realised she was holding up her right leg and she seemed kind of rigid. I gently picked her up and put her on my lap and she was making kind of a soft grunting sound and seemed spaced out, still shivering and kind of stiff. I carried her into the house and layed her on her pillow. She still seemed rigid all down her right side and after about half a minute she seemed to slowly snap out of it and appeared fine. When we first got her we has some "fly snapping" things going on but they seemed to go away and we have not seen her do it for about three weeks now. She now seems fine and has trundled off to lay in my daughter's bed. Any idea what this may have been, the whole thing lasted only about two minutes. This poor dog, I don't know what she was through in her past life, but it sure must have been horrible.

it does sound like a mild form of seizure activity. Seizure events can be far aprt in time as well as close together. I think you should keep a log going, describing the kinds of things you notice and share this with your vet.

Thanks for the advice, I thought the same thing when I saw her do that. I guess the best thing is to keep her comfortable during these episodes. We are heading back to Canada for the next six weeks and we will keep a close eye on her and make note of this as you suggested. Thanks for your help.
