My son's beagle is shaking pretty bad

Post by joe »

I'm dog sitting my son's 3 year old beagle tonight. I know less than nothing about dogs. All was fine until about 5 minutes or 1 hour ago. He was sitting calmly at my feet when he started a little bit of shaking - seemed like he had the hiccoughs but was making no sound. This shaking has gotten worse and now he can't seem to even lay down. His whole body is shaking and twitching. He's standing with his tail wrapped between his legs, muscles tight, just shivering and jumping from head to toe.
Help and quickly too! I'm getting scared that something serious is going on.

in the event no one gets here tonight to respond with some real advice, your dog may need immediate attention from an "er vet".

my advice would be to find one asap and go there now, check phonebook perhaps.

keep us informed on changes.

Jason is right, please seek an ER vet immediately. Hard to discern just from your description, but not knowing for sure, this may be seizure activity.....if he is pacing, circling, disoriented, or progresses to thrashing about, don't delay another minute, to an ER vet immediately. Also try to peek inside his mouth in the event he may be choking on something.....in which, no time to waste, to ER vet NOW.

Did your son leave a contact number he can be reached? If not, trust your instincts and get the dog to a vet ASAP, best to play it safe!

Thanks for the advice. I took him in. He's spending the night, maybe two! It's most likely the result of ingesting snail bait or fertilizer.
I may get confirmation tomorrow.

Yikes, thank you for taking the initiative in getting him to your vet! Hope it isn't rodenticide poisoning....keep us updated?
