I've got a kind of silly question about why dogs aren't...ms

Post by Mary Plummer »

...affected by catnip like cats, at least our cat, is. I've gotten curious about this, because we do have catnip growing in our yard, and brought some in to give to Carmel. Mr. Blue ate a couple of leaves (actually, more than Carmel did), but it had no affect on him. Our Carmel ate some, ran around frantically for a few minutes, and then went to sleep. She loves it, and I know it gets to her, but why don't dogs react to it? I'm glad they don't; having two psycho pets running around would be a bit of a challenge :D

That's a great question, Mary. Hope someone has good answer. Honey does love to play with catnip toys, but like you said, not same as a cat going bonkers. Out cats always got nutty over celery flakes or oregano inside home made toys, too.

wow..oregano? I wonder if they both have the same chemical

...compound in them that causes the "nutso" stuff. That's great to know, and I'm going to try it in a toy for Carmel!

...WHILE we're at our crazy jobs :D It's interesting that it says not all cats will be affected by it - every cat I've ever lived with has been. I think Mr. Blue might be a little bit jealous... That history of it is fascinating.
