Elbow surg. done

Post by kimkats000 »

The surgery was done yesterday. I was able to bring Drago home last night. He is doing good. He had/has FMCP and they found that he had/has OCD. They said his joint looks like a much older dog. My question is this----------they said NO activity except getting up to go potty for three weeks. They did not have to use a screw or any hardware to do the fix. Right now the NO activity is not a problem as he is willing to sleep and rest at my feet. How far do I take this? We have a small wash/mud room set up for him for when we are not home. When we are home do I really make him stay down? NO walking except potty?

THANKS!

ask your vet if it might be possible to wrap the leg to the body with an ace bandage when you want to take him out...sometime, depending on thetype of surgery it is possible to pull the leg back and just wrap it to the chest for a short period to keep the pup from injuring a leg....it may not be advisable in this situation but ask any way.....don';t do it witout asking though

Yes sir! I will call first thing in the morning. I have been doing range of motion with all of the legs as well as light rubbing. He really seems to enjoy it! THANKS for the reply!

Normally we recommend crate rest - which means the area the dog is confined to is big enough for them to stand up, turn around, and situation themselves comfortable. No walking around the house, following mom around, etc. Check with your vet.
