Hi,
I have a very aggressive dog towards other dogs. WE are at our wits end. When I called the vet yesterday ( I am still waiting for a response) THe receptionist said there is a drug that begins with C that can help with agression. I am wondering if anyone has used it for the dog and what the results were. We are very upset because we feel like putting her down might be the responsible thing to do, but not at all what we want to do. SHe is great with people, very very bad and dangerous toward other dogs. Please help Sam and I.

Has anybody used the drug that helps with aggression?
I thought Clomicalm was used to treat separation anxiety. This case does not really sound like separation anxiety although I am sure there are other drugs out there to help manage this dog. I was going to suggest a referral to an animal behaviorist. Many times they can diagnose the pet's problem and prescribe medication while the owners work with behavior modification techniques to help the dog.
I think your local veterinarian should be able to refer you to a behaviorist for some help. Good luck with your dog. I hope you find something that works.

Clomicalm may help by itself, but it's only really effective if you use it in combination with re-training the dog not to act that way. Somehow the drug helps dogs be more "trainable" - helps them learn new behavior more easily. Your dog sort of needs to go through puppy training all over again... Seeing an animal behaviorist will help you immensely in learning how to help him un-learn his aggressive behavior.
My parents' dog was on Clomicalm for years ... it helped for a while, but he never got completely better ... they eventually had to put him down.
