glucose monitoring
glucose monitoring
Well, Tia, my 11 year old toy poodle, recently diagnosed with diabetes, was in the hospital yesterday to have her glucose levels monitored. it appears that the dosage she is on is just right for her. My vet agreed that due to Tia's food allergies we will keepher on the same food. I will try to add bran to her homemade soft food and homemade treats to increase the fibre content. I mentioned Cushings and the vet indicated if she had that, her response to the insulin would not have been so favorable. Is this correct? She is going in on Wednesday, mid-day, for a glucose test and if things are good, the vet says she will rule out cushings. Any thoughts?
Re: glucose monitoring
i kinda agree, a positive insulin response is a pretty good indication of Diabetes..Is your vet going to have you monitoer the bloood sugar at home, if so i found it was easier on clients to make a little nick in the ear...seemed to bother the dogs less than rtoe nailes etc...besides they get a good ear scratching at the same time...also urinary sugar can give you a pretty good indication..... after a while some of the dogs look forward to the nick...either the nick or the scratching...
