Davet or anyone, a question about Winnie's incontinence
Davet or anyone, a question about Winnie's incontinence
About how long after surgery should this last? I understand it could be permanent, and I am not getting impatient or anything. I guess I was just wondering how long to wait before I ask her Vet for meds to help it. I was home with her and doing some weeding and able to watch her...it appears she is having trouble emptying her bladder completely, and ends up dribbling all over...Then she looks at me, and seems to say-I don't like this, Mommy, what's the matter with me..For a Basset, she was easy to house train, and has always been clean, and I am sure she doesn't like this.
Actually, you might want to give your vet a call right away. If she's only dribbling, don't mistake that for being unable to void her urine. Inflammation can cause that, it's important that you make sure inflammation is not a problematic thing during her recovery. If it happens that inflammation is a concern at this point, your vet has meds available to help that.
Expect another week or so to determine if her incontinent condition will improve, this is generally the time frame after this type radical surgery. If any problems develop, no matter how slight they may seem to you, don't hesitate to contact your vet promptly.
Davet can probably add more...

I agree with Traci.... Hoping for a rapid recovery....
i can't add much more but it is not an unusual :
occurance...the bladder was entered to remove a large irritant so you might get some blood and some incontinance due to both the incision and the streaching with the stone..it usually goes away after a few days, but like Traci says give a call..some times antispasmotics like atropine et al are used to control this but i suspect it will go away with time...but give a call anyway
(ha this is great) i can correct my errors...davetism is on its way out....

My Vet was aware of this when he sent her home
He mentioned that when they take her out, she can't make it to the door. She is not used to being kenneled..we have a doggy door, and she did that same thing, maybe 3 or 4 times here. The accidents were actually the reason I had her checked out to start with...I am not aware of the dribbling going on at that time though. That seems to be since surgery. Gosh, it is nice to be able to talk to people like this!
