IF lepto is common in your area and the new vaccine covers the strains found in your area. If it doesn't cover the right strains, it isn't going to help.

We have the new Fort Dodge vaccine for people who request it. It is the only Fort Dodge vaccine we use (too many reactions with their DHPP), but it is the only one with the more common strains in it. We see Lepto here, but not a ton. We don't recommend the vaccine unless the dog is at particular risk or the owner requests it. We're pretty conservative on vaccines (3 yr schedule, offer titers as well).

basically that is how i scheduled my lepto---didn't use it much after a sudden reaction but started up again when a patient (human rtype) in the hospital across fromme died of lepto---then started up again and then gradually phased it out....
