Update on my AIHA dog

Post by Nancy (Spuddie' s Mum) »

I just wanted to give you a progress report on my pom Spud who has Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. Yesterday was day four of his treatment and he went back to the vet for another blood test. His original red cell count was 9% and now (as of yesterday) it's up to 24%. This is great news and means he is responding to his treatment. He is definitely more active and alert plus he's a lot more interested in food as well. He's still not as he was, but he seems to be going in the right direction. He has to stay on the Prednisone for a couple of weeks on the high dose, then the vet is VERY SLOWLY going to reduce his dose. The only bad thing is how much the Pred makes him pee. Poor guy, he's either drinking or peeing. I guess it's going to be hard for the next couple of weeks but we can sure live with a wet rug over a sick (or worse) dog. Thank God for Bissell carpet cleaners! :)

That is great news...and I'm sure you feel a big sense of relief! Do you have some Nature's Miracle to add to your Bissell?

No, I've just been using vinegar on it.
