A few days ago my dog (10 pounds) was sleeping on my mom's lap. When they got up she discovered her shirt and jeans were wet. He had been in a very deep sleep and when I took him outside after the discovery, he peed for a longer time than usual. This hasn't happened since.
My question, is this the beginning of incontinence? Or did he just drink too much before his nap and "wet the bed" as it were? He is 12 years old, JRT.
If it happens again I will bring him to vet.

Re: my dog leaked
Too hard to say without seeing him. Make an appointment regardless, and if you've noticed his urine production is less than normal, request a full urinalysis and bloodwork to rule out UTI, bladder problems or early renal disease.

actually, it's MORE than normal He's due for his annual exam in March, but if something happens again, we'll go sooner. Thank you for responding!
Re: my dog leaked
If it were my dog, I'd want to see the vet ASAP. Any noticible change in unrination can be a sign of problems, some of them serious. An increase in urination can be a sign of diabetes insipidus, diabetes melitus, or Cushings syndrome, among other problems. In an older dog, just like in older humans, problems can appear suddenly, and if not diagnosed and treated, can lead to serious illness. If you can, try to move the check-up to an earlier date just to be safe.
