My Sister's 9yrs. old male sheltie has just been

Post by PP.Mom »

diganosed as having Horner's Syndrome. He had started sneezing some. Then his eye looked cloudy. This morning it was sorta turn inward and very red and sunk back in it's socket. The vet gave some info on it and said he did not need medicine for it. She also tested his ears and they were okay. She thought he might have run into something or hit his head some way. The only thing we can think of is that he may have been sneezing and hit his self some way. She said it could take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to heal. Any information any one can offer, is much appreciated.

I am looking for more information on Horner's Syndrome. Even a Google search has turned up very little. Any information or links on it would be much appreciated. Thanks....

Horner's syndrome

Third eyelid protruding

If the eye is still bothersome, or the cloudiness has persisted, I would get a recheck ASAP and opt for further opthalmic diagnostics. While mild trauma may have played a part, in an older dog, you would want to rule out other causes, i.e. foreign body, glaucoma, etc. When was the last time the dog had a full blood profile done? Is he suffering from any other health condition?

Traci, thank you so much for the information. I have printed it off for my sister to read she does not have a computer. My sister was thinking he sometimes chases squirrels away from her chickens he might have ran into something. Which would explain the trauma.

Max had a full blood profile done about 2 months ago. The only other health condition he has is being mildly overweight. Before this happened he had seemed depressed or tired. She thought it was because of the hot weather and she is working longer hours. He is her baby.

thanks again and I will keep you updated.
