Thanks all for the suggestions - yes, I plan to be directly in touch w/Skeptic re another pet matter, although feel I've really let him and his group down in the past, by showing interest and then finding I am unable to follow though... I also have two nearby neighbors who might be of help: one is active with local humane societys; I am acquainted with her as she is from Lincoln NE, where son and I lived for years, so we have that in common besides our interest in dogs. The other neighbor has (or had - haven't seen it recently) a cute sheltie - this neighbor and I are only on waving terms but I could probably find out more by asking around. And I have serious dog-owning friends in Memphis, one of whom has a sheltie...
But
...the story of the puppy's recovery and Karen's breed description renewed my longtime interest. Sadly I may still not be in a position to actually get a second dog ATM... unless maybe Fate has one in store just for me. I now intend to work on this part! Thanks again!
