Frontline causing skin irritations?.....

Post by Vicki »

Hello....has anyone here had any problems with using Frontline on their dogs? I've used it on my Poms for years. One of my Poms last year was a little itchy after the application but that went away. I gave them their first dose of the season about 3 weeks ago - 2 days later my 7 yr old Pom was very itchy where I had applied the Frontline. Skin was not pink or red but he was itchy. This went on for a couple weeks. Then...just this past week.....he's developed these little dark scabby looking things around where I put the Frontline. The skin itself is not pink or red and he doesn't seem to be as itchy as before but these things are there now. THey're very small. Some are on the skin and some are in the fur as if they came off the skin and are working themselves out through the fur and will fall off. I plucked one off and mixed it with water to see if it was blood and it didn't dissolve like blood or a scab might, so I don't know what they are or why they have appeared. I'd hate to get to the point where I can't use Frontline on him because it's soooo effective but I don't want to make him uncomfortable. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Any flea application can cause a mild reaction at any time....regardless of how long you've been using the product.

I'd speak to your vet about it, maybe try Advantage instead. Might also want to get your dog checked to make sure it isn't an unrelated problem.
