Possible Prostate Problem in neutered dog

Post by ginger »

During Mack's recent yearly exam I was telling my vet that I thought he was straining to urinate.. he checked and found some red & white blood cells and thought he may have a slight bladder infection. While he was examing him he checked his prostate... he said that it is hard and it should be soft, especially in a neutered dog. He wants to do a needle biopsy to see if it is anything to be concerned about. He seems pretty worried about this and now I am very worried about it. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Ginger, how old is Mack? If your vet suggests a biopsy aspirate, I would oblige him. If it is a mass, surgery to remove it may solve the problem, but it depends on what the pathology result is. If your vet is not experienced in this area, I would seek a pro opinion from a vet university.

aspirate, especially in a neutered dog, msg

it is rather unusual for a neutered dog to have prostate trouble so an aspirate might be good news....ie just fibrous growth
