What would be the correct dose of pepcid for a 49lb.

sheltie? This is my sister dog and he was having join pain. Her vet. had her giving him 3/4 of a 325mg aspirin daily for pain. After 3 days he started vomiting and small streaks of blood. She took him back to the vet. and they told her he was sensitive to aspirin and not to give him that anymore. They put him on 20mgs of pepcid a day. Is this the correct dose for a dog his size. Also they gave him a shot of something that starts with an m to stop the vomiting.

I don't know about the pepcid, which I suspect is needed because of the stomach damage done by the aspirin, but have you considered glucosamine and chondroitin for the joint pain? These nutraceuticals work together to help re-cushion the joints. This cushioning helps relieve pain. I've had 4 shelties (currently down to only 2). I've have 3 of them on this. I especially noticed a difference in Mickey after I started him on this mixture (GlycoFlex - a canine product, and OsteoBiflex, a human product). Unfortunately, I lost my Mickey a few months ago at the age of 16 /2, but I am firmly convinced that the gluc/chon mixture bought him at least 4 years of added life with much less pain. He was extremely sensistive to aspirin - couldn't give it to him at all.

Metoclopramide for the vomiting?

Mikey is 5.4 lbs and gets 2.5 mg twice daily. My 70 lb lab got 20 mg twice a day which I believe was a bit high of a dose, but I'm not positive (she was on steroids and piroxicam on alternating days).
