Has anyone heard of a prey disorder?

Post by Kristi56 »

We adopted a dog middle of Oct. She is half Pointer Half Aussi. We were told she is great with other anomals. 3 times she has attacked my Chiuahuah and last night she killer her. Nothing causes it. My Chiuahuah would either be walking by or was in bed sleeping and the big dog would grab her and shake her llike a rag doll. I called the Humane society ( Who we got her from) and they pretty much told us we are out of luck unless we want to pay more to bring her back in and surrender her. We paid 90$ for her. They also told me they thought it was a prey disorder which a trainer may be able to fix. So what do I do? My son doesn't want her but still doesn't want to get rid of her either. I have other animals and she is great with them. With strange Dogs again she is great. But she killed my little dog. Any advice?

My deepest sympathies on the loss of your little Chihuahua. I am not familiar with the Humane Society policies, but I think their attitude about this stinks. In defense of the dog, she may not have really understood thaat the Chi was another dog - it may have been a toy to her, but that still doesn't excuse the unfeeling attitude you received. I you really press this, I suspect you can return the dog and get your money back, but it won't be easy. I wish I could offer some advice on what to do with this dog. All I can say is, for now at least, please don't leave him alone with any animal or child.
