Question on Boston Terrier behavior

Post by k9Karen »

The "Alien" is back and my daughter has a question about the way her Boston acts around my dogs. He seems to be totally fearless and lacking in canine etiquette. He runs up to the dogs and jumps on them without stopping to get a "go ahead" signal from them. Angel has reluctantly become his chew toy (but she is encouraging him, in a way). Allie runs from him, growling and snapping, but he does't get the message. Right now they are having an altercation right under my chair! Mickey barks and barks and barks, which encourages the little brat beyond belief! Mickey wants to bark, but doesn't want to be touched - Buster tries to get him to play, which leads to more growling and snapping.

Is this kind of behavior a Boston trait or is it just the case of a young pup who doesn't quite "get it"?

PS - He is obviously doing well and is totally full of himself. You'd never know he was so sick just a few days ago!

Boston Terrorists!!

Post by ginger »

I have a Boston who is now 6. When he was a puppy he did exactly the same thing... they have no fear and think they are big dogs... Mack still thinks he is King of the Hill. My best advice is to get him into obedience.. it did wonders for Mack, and now that he is older he is much better.. but he never really stopped being a puppy... I used to call him my little boston terrorist... They are really great little dogs... full of life, spunk and he makes me laugh every day... good luck with him... but get him some training..

Sounds like Scribs as a pup...

She was pretty wild and obedience did help somewhat. She's does seem to be a bit calmer now that she's 1.5 yrs old (yes keep saying that to myself and maybe it'll come true  ).
