Karen- your info on raw vs other dog food methods was excellent. In fact I saved parts of it for myself. I would never feed raw, but for someone tempted to do so - your explanation of the negatives would be very helpful.

As a microbiologist who spends much of her day trying to determine the cause of diarrheal illnesses in human patients, I'm afraid I cringe at the thought of feeding raw meats to a pet. Dogs are susceptible to many of the same pathogens humans are. Plus, like I mentioned, if the dog doesn't get sick, he could become a carrier of some really nasty "bugs" - and as much as I love my dogs, I find their personal hygiene habits to be a bit lacking by human standards making it very likely that the bacteria will be spread in the home environment. I think if everyone worked with what I work with every day, they'd feel the same way!
