Rawhide stuck in throat

Athena dug up a rolled up raw hide in the ground and swallowed a chunk before I could get it away from her. She has been coughing and throwing up for 24 hours. A huge rolled up piece came up, but she is still coughing. What can I do to help her?

I'd take her to your vet...even though she expelled the largest piece, you have no way of knowing if there is another lodged in her esophagus or if it is perforating tissue, don't take that risk. I'd also be concerned about bacteria.

just a piece of happy news, one of the few dogs i lost following a routine spay was a standard poodle who had eaten a piece of her coller while sitting in the cage prior to surgery...i didn't know it till post surgery when she died, never even thought that the chewed up end of her collar had been chewed while in the cage....it went down her windpipe when she was recovering.......never ever did surgery on a dog with the collar on, i guess she could have eaten it at home and regurgitated post op...not a happy day
