Dog question... I mean duh....

Post by Kevin »

Unstable Mabel made a poop tpday that was covered with like mucus. I didn't see it as I was gone today but was told of it. She also sounds conjested in her breathing. She seems more itchy lately too.. she has alergies and I feed her a venison meal and rice food. She gets few, if any table scrapes cause well.. I don't like cook ya know.... and very seldom eat anything but frozen microwave crap when I do eat here. Her snacks are rice cakes.. apples and sometimes carrots. Oh yeah,, she also get frozen green beans with her meals. I do give her an occasional peanut when I'm eatin some and she has been chewing on these big honkin beef knuckle things I get her an Albertsons. I have taked away those things today cause I'm thinkin that she may have an allergy to the beef crapola. She also seems to be a bit on the retarded side.. but she's always been that way so I'm not too worried about that.. just thought I'd mention it cause well.. I am still me and everything. So what do ya think?? Am I doint right in taking her bone thing away? She thinks not. Am I doing something else wrong here?? What should I do to keep her semi normal? Will she still be accepted intot the collage of her choice? Will she ever become President? Will the castaways ever get off of Gilligans Island? What. Thanks.

Mucous in the stool could be a result of stress....but it could also be clostridium, bacterial infection, etc. The congested breathing is a concern, I wouldn't wait on this Kev, if she hasn't had a checkup lately, now is the time to do so.

Will she ever become President?

Mucous is produced to protect the intestinal tract from something irritating which can be of a bacterial nature, but very often it is caused by something as simple as a piece of "scratchy food".
As soon as the culprit has passed, everything returns to normal.
Since you mentioned allergies, it could also be caused by some allergy.

If they are fine otherwise I usually just wait and see, but I agree with Traci, that congested breathing should really be checked out.

Best wishes from my Mabel who had a short bout with mucousy stools just last week, after eating a piece of old, decaying wood, to your Mabel.

No problem.

Thanks to both of you... Mabel goes in today at 4:00pm. I wonder if the mucus part is due to those bones. Both dogs chews the crap out of those things and I know that they eat the small chunks that they chew off of em. After I got to thinking about it.. Mabel is past due for her shots. So she'll get those while there. Wish me luck.. my truck is in the shop and I'm driving a beat up Dodge Ramcharger... shoud be interesting as Mabel does not do well in the car. She always wants to get in my lap and drive. Shes a small dog trapped in a big dogs body. But I tell ya what... I sure do love that mutt...

Hey Kev - what did you find out? Is Mabel OK?

About getting into the college of her choice - what are her S.A.T. scores?

And about that president thing - you have to be at least 35 in calendar years, not dog-years, so I doubt she'll make it, but you never know - anything is possible as long as you quit giving her those nasty knuckles with way too much fat - and BTW, were they American-made? Some of the stuff from foreign countries contains some nasty stuff like Salmonella - could be the problem!

She's ok. They are thinkin allergy.. so was I. She got checked over pretty good... got her nails done and her shots. No more of those bones... ever. funny I didn't think of that the first time I saw her with one. I picked them both up nylabones today so they are happy... Fuzzball just HAS to have something in her mouth at all times. She was goin nuts without anything. She even did well in the car. She can be a bugger in a car.. wants to drive. But this time after we got rolling she layed down in the pass. side. She really is a goos dog... just kind of a nut and kind od hyper at times. She gets so excited... she's so funny...

Glad to hear the unstable one is OK. It sure can be scary when they don't act right. Don't you wish they could tell you what's wrong? I talk to mine all the time, but they don't answer me in a language I can understand.
