Mr. Blue is much improved..new pic and a LOT of thanks!

Post by Mary Plummer »

Hello everyone,

Mr. Blue's wound is looking so good today! It stopped bleeding over night, so I'm very relieved. I wanted to thank all of you for helping me yesterday. I was so scared, and knowing I could come here was a tremendous help! I went out today and bought a box of candy and a silly card to give to our vets. I thought I'd stop by tomorrow, and they can see how well Mr. Blue is healing up.

Hi Marty,

We walked by their house today, and fortunately their dogs weren't out! They got to see Mr. Blue's wound, and the man offered right then to pay our vet bill. I said No. Him and the woman felt so bad, and I felt better that he offered. I'm just so glad I didn't have to go to the emergency clinic for stitches! Mr. Blue's spirits are really good today; he's excited about walks, and as irritated as always at those evil squirrels and rabbits!

Such good news...glad that both of you are better. And it seems he has no lasting fears about walking there again (although I would if I were the one bit). But I bet those ppl will be real careful to keep their dog fenced.

Anyway- glad he is back to hound-dog normal! :P

Here's a playmate evil critter for Mr. Blue (my daughter took this)

Glad to hear he's better. Sorry I didn't post sooner - I was out of town and didn't have access to a computer (serious withdrawal symptoms occurred). I'm very glad you weren't hurt during the fray. Do you know if your vet has to report incidents like this? I know here in Florida, the human docs have to report dog bites (dog bites human), but I don't know if vets have to report dog bites to other dogs. If they do have to report it, your neighbors may be in trouble with Animal Control. I'm glad they offered to pay the bill. You're a much nicer person than most would be. I think I would have accepted the money, and many others probably would sue. Mr. Blue is very lucky to have you.

thanks momPaws and k9Karen! Tell Honey not to worry - Mr. Blue will deal with that squirrel :D We stopped at the vet's just a bit ago, and Mr. Blue got a really good report; he's healing faster than the vet expected. The wound is no longer gaping. It's been oozing some pus-like stuff, but she said that was to be expected, and was good. They appreciated the candy. She explained a bit about the law in this regard. She didn't need to file a report, but said that if it ever (God forbid!) happens again, I need to file a police report. I told her we'd talked about it, and if it does happen again, that's what we'll do. I guess that, here in our town in Michigan, dogs get two strikes in this regard. It's kind of sad, in a way, because it strikes me that most dog attacks are the result of human negligence or stupidity. This one certainly was! She also recommended taking a walking stick along, just in case it happens again.

Glad he is healing so well. I think here in NY it is also 2 strikes or bites. I agree that most probably could be avoided it ppl were more careful. A scary situation could happen any time one dog meets another - who knows..wish there was something non-toxic like a spray to take with you. A walking stick kinda scares me because if you used it to defend yourself or your dog the other dog might get even more aggressive- don't know the answer. But glad you are both ok!

Hi Boxer Tom,

Yes, our neighbor's St. Bernard was allowed out of the yard, and went for Mr. Blue. It was one of the most horrid things I've ever seen. If the woman hadn't been right there to get the dog away from him, I'm afraid I would have jumped in kicking him or something. One of the hardest things is feeling like I didn't do my job - keeping Mr. Blue safe. It happened so quickly that I know, rationally, that there was nothing I could have done to stop it. It was negligence on the part of people, that's for sure! I read a quote in a mystery novel the other night, that talked about how, with the benefit of hindsight, we learn a lot but also take on the feeling that we should have been able to prevent something. It sure seemed to apply. I'm going to be extra alert walking by this house in the future!
