Re: Davet
He was a bright shining star for so many. I'm so glad we got to know him a little and hear his stories and learn from his wisdom and share in his passion. He was tremendously loved.
Betsy, thank you so much for sharing your dad's final wishes with us. I felt so sad when I first saw this, but then I was laughing -- which, I'm sure, he would have preferred. Please send your mom all my love, and know that you and all your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

We had a good time at the funeral.... Yes, we are davets kids. The funeral director said we put the FUN back in funeral. We told funny stories about him, shared lots and lots of pictures. Plus people would come up to me and tell me a funny story. One of my favorites. My friends father went out to check out cars at the dealer. Davet was standing in the show room. He asked devet what he was doing... Naturally he replied (without skipping a beat)the veterinarian business is slow so I decided to take on a second job.
My eulogy was - you know you come from the family of a veterinarian when your friends won't stay for dinner. What is that boiling on the stove? Spaghetti? No its a dog skull. We would sit at the dinner table trying to figure out if the blood on his shirt was his or a patient. We lost the ability to know what normal was when the butcher would show up and drop a box of pig hearts on our kitchen table.. Davet loved to have private classes with the local kids on dissecting a heart.
I had the best life.

I'm so glad you fulfilled his final wish and everyone was laughing. I'm sure everyone enjoyed all of the stories. Sending best wishes and lots of love to you, your family, and especially your mom.

That's how I would like to be remembered one day, nothing sad, just for people to live it up and have a good time in my memory. After all, I won't be there to say one way or another.
I know it is difficult, AM, but I can only imagine all the humor and precious memories you and your family have had with your wonderful dad, you are so fortunate to have that! - God Bless his spirit and all of you and your family, whom I know he loved so very much. (((((((HUGS)))))))

I haven't been here in quite a while and am just reading this. The world has lost a wonderful man, but has been enriched by his kind, generous, and humorous nature. I followed him here from the Acme Board when it folded, because I was impressed by his willingness to share his knowledge of animals with the rest of us in a very down to earth manner. Loved his stories and have missed his presence! Well done, thy good and faithful servant!

It's my first time back at the forum in a few weeks. Amandasmom- I'm so glad to hear your mom has a new furbaby. Nothing like watching and taking care of new pup to take up all of your time - she won't have much time to feel lonely. I know it's hard for her, and all of you. It always takes time. I hope she continues to enjoy her new baby!
