I have an animated avatar and am wondering, if it falls within the parameters set here, would it work? Next time I am bored, I might try it, but if you know the answer, I'll do something else. Thanx!

Ideally, your avatar should be less than 4-5 kb in size, and less than 100x100 px for both height and width, animated images tend to be much higher. Pages require avatars to be loaded every time a page/thread is viewed, so for this reason, I request avatars be small in size (less than 5 kb if possible) otherwise it slows down the page loads considerably.

I also request that you check with the site that your avatar resides on, and to make sure you do not "hotlink" according to any TOS the site may provide. Hotlinking is remote imaging, which means if you post an avatar on my site from someone else's site, they will not appreciate it because it will be using their bandwidth on their server (unless of course they give you permission).

Thanks! No, it isn't hot linked, but on my computer. I sized it down to 90 by57....will have to chec the kb.

Let me know if this causes problems....I can't tell if the animation is working though.

Well, it is working now. BTW, it is 4.32 KB

Can I use a picture from my photobucket account as an avatar? It's just under 5000 bytes and 64x64.

Btw, after a typing the previous message I logged out. When I came back now it showed me my own message marked as unread. Thats' what I meant the other day. There is nobody else posting in this forum at the moment.

And I didn't have IE troubles either.

As for the avatar, you'll need to check with your image hosting site, to make sure they allow hotlinking, my guess is that they don't, since you would be using the avatar indefinately.

If you used your browser's back button after posting, you'll see an "unread" post.

No, I had gone to another site, then came back here after half an hour, and it showed my my own post as unread (red colour).

Sounds like a browser or cache problem. In any case, there is a link at the upper right in every forum "mark all topics as read". You can click on that link and all posts in that forum will be marked read, including your own.

Yes, I do that.

And yes, photobucket allows hotlinking.
