How To Post Images

Post by jason »

ImageHow To Post ImagesImage

Images must be uploaded to an image hosting site before you can post it here. Only the reference to an image can be placed on this site. You cannot upload images directly to the CatHelp-Online bulletin board.

Edit: looks like http://photobucket.com/ might be a better solution.

This "How-To" will use http://www.villagephotos.com as the image hosting site, feel free to use others if you want. Be sure the image hosting site allows for hotlinking, which means you can post an images stored on their site here without requiring other people to either login to your photo account or be at their site to view the images.
  1. Go to http://www.villagephotos.com and click the "Sign Up" link
  2. Enter your information as required
  3. Once the account is setup (may recieve an email), login to the villagephoto.com account
  4. Once logged in, click the "Photos" link
  5. Click the "Photos" link on the next page (should say "(0 images))" next to it
  6. Click the "Upload New Images" link
  7. Near the "File(s) to upload" text, click on the "Browse" button
  8. Choose the image on your hard drive you want to upload and click "Open"
  9. Click the "Upload" button
  10. Click the "Click here to continue" link
  11. You should now see a thumbnail (or place holder), click the "Image URL and Tools" link
  12. Copy the URL just under the "Public Image URL" text
Highlight the URL and press CTRL-C
  13. Return to this bulletin board and start a new topic in an appropiate forum
  14. Use the bbcode buttons above, click the "Img" button
  15. While holding the CTRL key, press the V key (CTRL-V)
  16. Click the "Img" button again
  17. Click the "Preview" button to be sure you have entered the URL for your image correctly
if all goes well, you should see the image in the topic post.

Code: Select all

hello there, here is an image of my cat

once you do this once or twice, you wont need to read this...trust me.

if you have a digital camera, its usually as simple as connecting a usb cable in between your camera and computer. some digital cameras use a media stick and can be inserted into your computer if a media stick interface exists somewhere on the computer.

if you have a "normal" camera and have your photos developed onto hardcopys, then you will need to use a scanner and save them to a floppy disk (or cd).

alot of copy centers (xerox style copy shops) have computers and scanners for this purpose in case you do not have a scanner (scanners are fairly cheap these days though).

i think some photo developing shops even have a service whereby you can request photos to be placed on a cd in addition to film prints for an extra charge.

Jason, don't know what I am doing wrong. I have tried at least 10 times, seems all is fine til step 12, somewhere in that I lose it. I don't think I understand about what url to copy. I am just not familiar at all with doing this. I don't want to be a bother. Wanda

UGH!

villagephotos no longer allows hotlinking (link photos from another site, like this one) unless you upgrade to a paid account.

sorry, will search for different solution or if someone else has a suggestion, im open to it.

Edit: looks like http://photobucket.com/ might be a solution, i will check it out later myself, but your welcome to test it too. they appear to allow hotlinking and also allow a good amount of traffic/files.

I have a paid account at picturetrail.com. Previously I was able to post photos here by following your instuctions through #14 then copying the image location picturetrails has given me for such posting into "Edit" then pasting into my board message, then clicking Imagehttp://pic3.picturetrail.com/VOL19/9267 ... 54.jpg[img]

Please give me your thoughts on this - if it is just something of which I ignorant (wouldn't be the first time) I will accept further instruction gracefully. But if the "CTRL V" procedure is recently added and/or applicable only to PCs, then I fear we may have an irreconcilable problem. :?

basically, you want to ciick the Img button first and then paste in the image url/location and then click the Img button again to close it.
that is backwards. the img tag the has the "/" should be on the end and the one without the "/" should be in front.

to simpify, you could just type it yourself and copy-n-paste the url as you are already doing....basically, dont use the Img buttons, just type it yourself (that is how i do it btw, i type faster than i can move a mouse and click).

Duh... I was pressing the same button both before and after... let's see if I can spot the difference this time

Image[/i]

I seem to have lucked out this once - don't know if I can do it again. Apparently my trouble is a short-term memory glitch of some kind...
