Please Pray for Sammy

My 15 year old cat Sammy started limping on July 4 and a few day later stopped using his back leg. After the vet ran tests then sent us to a specialist we were told he has cancer that has spread from his lung to his leg. We also found a lump that came from out nowhere when he started limping and they found cancer cells in that too. We have him on medicine to keep him comfortable. I am helping him get around. He is eating good and grooming himself and going to the litter box. He just is sleeping alot more, but is still very vocal with me. Please pray for my Sammy. He has been a wonderful companion to me. He was born in my house and has never left except to go to the vet. He is a strong little animal. Please pray for him. Thank you

My prayers for Sammy.....did you thoroughly discuss all treatment options? There are various cancer treatments available, and you should also talk to your vet about supportive care, such as nutrition, medications for nausea and vomiting (if applicable), antiinflammatory medications, pain meds if necessary, etc.

He is on an antiinflammatory medicine called piroxicam and a pain medicine called bupernex. They said that is all they can do. There is no surgery that can help. They said chemo or radiation would help either. We are just keeping him comfortable and out of pain. Thank you for the response and please keep praying.

Have you sought a second opinion? I would suggest asking your vet to consult with oncology experts at either University of Colorado, University of Wisconsin, or Washington State University. It may only cost you the price of a long distance call to have your vet consult with one of these oncology specialists to see if treatment options are being utilized to the fullest extent.
