a friend from high school suddenly lost her beloved Duke yesterday...she was playing catch with him...he collapsed and she rushed him in to her vet...Duke had a cancerous tumor unknown to her...a fast growing cancer (She did not mention where it was) and the tumor burst...
Tonight she posted this on her Facebook and it brought me to tears
Dear Father, please open your gates and come escort my beloved best friend *Duke* across the Rainbow Bridge. Please Father, I ask kindly that you place Duke to a place of honor, as he; while on earth had always been a faithful servant. Father, please grant me the strength not to dwell to much on my loss, rather; help me to remember the details of Duke's life with the love he had unconditionally shown me. - And - grant me the courage to honor him by sharing those memories with others. Thank You Father for placing the right people in my life during this sad time. I will be forever grateful to my family and friends who took time from their lives to show their love, compassion and support. Thank You Father for the angel you sent me this evening who was attentive in listening to my aching heart. Who allowed me to share my memories, share my photographs and share Duke's love. Please Father, when it's my time to pass over into your paradise, please allow Duke and Buddy to accompany me to bring me home. Thank You Father for the most beautiful gift you gave me when you gave me Duke and for the 8 years you allowed us together. Thank You Father for granting me the strength to give him to you now. I Love You ♥ Amen.
She adopted Duke from the shelter, so I would venture to say he was 9-10 years of age. Buddy was her mom's dog, and when her mom died, my friend brought Buddy into her home and promised her mom she would take care of him forever...Buddy died last year and Robin was so distraught because she did not live up to her promise to her mother...her dogs are her kids, as much as our furkids are ours....
