Bud Has Crossed The Bridge :(

Post by Tambrey »

Well....it was not good at the hospital this afternoon...Bud tested positive and was in the final stages of Feline Leukemia

By the time we got there, his temp had dropped to below 100...his ears, gums, nose and pads were pale and he was listless...so I called my husband and he and my son and I were all there with Bud as he crossed that Rainbow Bridge...

They were so nice and thoughtful...the tech brought in one of those knotted fleece blankets with a blue background and white snowflakes on it...blue for a boy kitty...and folded it and laid it neatly on the exam table...
We got as much time as we wanted to be with him before the doctor and her assistant came in...She explained what would happen, I knelt at the head of the table and held Bud's face in my hand and stroked his face with my other hand as she gave him that shot...her assistant was stroking Bud along his back and side...
When he was gone...she left us alone again for a while, then brought in a cardboard casket and gently picked him up and laid him in it so he looked like he was curled up sleeping...

She said we may have been able to do things to buy him some time...days...weeks....but I decided that he already had not really eaten much lately, and turned his nose up at eggs and pork chop lastnight...why should I have tried to prolong that un-quality of life for my own benefit...

So we brought him home and in pouring rain, my husband and I just buried him out back on the west side of a big old tree in the pasture...he has 3 horses to watch over him, as well as the others who went before him...
And I know that all of our other critters have already met him at the Bridge and he is probably nudging God's Hand as He is trying to put some food down for him...after all..it has been a few days since he ate anything...

Safe Journey over the Bridge, my Sweet Bud

Ohhh, Tambrey! I'm so sorry; I've been reading along with Bud's story the past couple of weeks, and I didn't think it would come to this! Poor sweet Bud... I'm glad you did what was best for him, but I'm so sorry for your loss... *HUGS*

Tambrey, I can't tell you in words how much my heart is breaking for Bud, and you. I'm so very very sorry, this must be such a shock for you.

Bud is very much in my thoughts and prayers, and you too. This is so sad

Safe and gentle journey, sweet sweet Bud, you are soooo missed!!!

He will be missed by all here... I remember how he came into this house only as a visitor but remained as a friend... I remember his playfulness when the laser came out... Never thought he had it in him... Thanks to all for the warm sincere regrets...

This is so very sad! But Bud's family did everything they could - surely he was aware of this. I have missed so many threads and posts here in recent months... see now that the concern began on the 16th. I am weeping, but again I say, it seems to me Bud was a lucky kitty. Thank you, Tambrey and family for being the kind, sweet people you are!

Thank you everyone....it has been hard and my head and eyes ache from crying...I am going to go soak in a hot bath with a mug of hot tea...

From the time she brought Bud back in to me, after drawing his blood, to the time she came and told me the results, and until hubby and son got there, I just sat in a chair and held him on my lap, crying of course after she told me...I think Bud knew...he just curled up and hid his face in the crook of my arm...every so often he would lean back and look up at me, and then tuck his face back down into my arm...I just sat there stroking his back and head and neck....

The vet told him he was lucky to have found us and the year and a half of love and joy that we gave him, and he gave us...

It was hard to put food in the dishes this evening...only ten....

Don't cry Tambrey - you did the right thing. It's hard - it's horribly, horribly hard, and it hurts (I know how it hurts - may soon be there with my Angel), but it's the right thing to do.

Sending you my deepest sympathies.
