Hi fellow cat lovers,
I need help! A stray cat has adopted me, this cat arrived in a sad state, limping and side of face is raw and infected. I need to catch this cat and have it treated by a vet, I am sure it is not neutered, so I would like to have it done. I have tried and tried to trap it, short of starving it, it is so pathetic. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I can get pretty close to it when I have food, and only when I have food, but I am afraid since it has not been vacinated, that it me scratch or at worse bit me, especially if it is hurting.
Thanks
Michaela
Injured cat, need to catch
Re: Injured cat, need to catch
the best thing to do is get a Have-A-Heart Trap from your vet, humane society or you an buy them at Lowe's or maybe pet stores...
get some smelly canned cat food...the smellier the better and set the trap with some of the food...not the open canned at it may cut it's face on the edges of the can, and see if you can trap it that way....
Do not keep the cat in the trap for too long...get it to the vet ASAP after it is trapped!!
when you get it to the vet, they will be able to sedate through the trap if necessary and clean the wounds and treat the cat...also see about deworming, Frontline, ears cleaned and treated for mites...and if the cat is healthy enough, spay/neuter...
Will you be able to bring the cat into your home after treatment and adopt him or her and give it a permanent indoor only home?
Bless you for trying to help this cat...please keep us posted

Thanks Tambrey, I have a "Haveheart" trap, since most of my house cats have been strays that I have trapped;but this cat will starve before it will go near the trap, I stopped feeding it and it still will not get near the trap. Because of it's injury, I feel it needs the nourishment from the food for strength and to heal. I think he must have had a bad experience with a trap and has not forgotten, is that possible? Today, I noticed something else, he has trouble with his back leg, it gives out on him, my heart breaks for this cat, surely he is using up his nine lives .
To answer your question, yes he will have a home with me, he deserves some comforts after all that he has been through, I am sure he has quite a story to tell, if only he could.

What does your vet say? have you asked him for any safe way to catch him since the trap doesnt work?
Is there a way to bring him into the garage maybe and trap him that way? What about a different type of trap. Like one of those colapsable ones you get at petsmart. We bought a big for our macaw.

Almost 7 years in remission from Graves disease and no meds!

Maybe I've been watching too much tv, but I wonder if you could contact some kind of animal cops or similar organization to help you catch it... They seem pretty smooth at that sort of thing. :P
