I found a kitten lying in the middle of a road by where i live. Poor thing doesn't look to be around 5 weeks old. He was laying on his right side, curled up sleeping...more than likely keeping warm on the pavement. I walked up to him, and he looked up and meowed...i immediately noticed something was wrong. Poor guy's eye is all puffed out and infected. Appears to be a bad scratch, as his nose has a scab on it. I brought him home, and gave him 10cc's IV fluids and offered some watered down kitten food. His eye is bulged out, scabbed over, and a greenish pus is coming out the eye. I cleaned it out the best I could with peroxide and put some antibiotic ointment on it. I noticed his other eye has some green gunk and i'm hoping the infection hasn't spread. I really am short on funds, but I will call around tomorrow and see if anyone is willing to help him...more than likely the eye will not be able to be saved...looks way too bad anyone have any ideas how i can make him comfortable untill tomorrow???? thank you!

Found Kitten, please help!
Re: Found Kitten, please help!
This kitten needs veterinary attention IMMEDIATELY! please!!
The eye may be able to be saved, but timing is crucial. The LAST thing you should do is use peroxide in the eye, the best would be normal optical saline, to keep it moist and clean. Peroxide can greatly damage the tissues, and I hope you didn't put it IN the eye or around the orbit?! (sorry, just checking)
It sounds like this kitten suffered a severe trauma, probably something like hit by a car, and you should only leave fluids administration to an emergency staff, sub-q fluids aren't enough, he needs a cephalic catheter in place for continuous IV therapy with the correct fluid type, plus other emergency medications to relieve swelling and reduce shock (i.e., steroidal approach, etc), which he is probably suffering right now. Shock can lead to coma and death, the best thing you can do for this kitten is get him to an emergency vet RIGHT NOW. If brain swelling or internal injuries have occured, this kitten's life and recovery depend on the emergency vet visit pronto. The sooner his injuries are addressed, the better the chance of recovery, especially if brain swelling is concerning, steroids should be approached within 6-8 hours after the initial trauma or at best, immediately upon finding him.

Also, he appears to be just fine, just the eye. He is up and walking around, even played a little bit. Yes I did use peroxide on the eye...honestly the only thing i had on my mind was to clean out the wound...He has probably had the injury for a few days, as he is underweight and the ribs can be felt. I will flush the eye out with an eye saline solution.. im just trying to make him comfy till the morning
