Cat will not sit down - help/advise please......

Post by darrenh »

I have a 4 year old red oriental male (neutered). He has been healthy all his life so far, but recently he will not sit (with his bottom on the floor). He either lays down, sits down on the the side of one of his back legs, or when not moving around stands with his backside in the air. He sort of holds his backside in the air and will not sit properly. He walks and runs fine. I have been very concerned that he has been injured in some way and may be in pain. I have examined him and he does not appear to be in any pain whatsoever. His tail is OK and there is no visible injury or damage to his bottom or legs. I initially suspected damage to his spine, his legs, or some form of rectal problem (i.e. prolapse), yet there is no visible sign of this.

Any advise would be fantastic. Many thanks

Has he been making regular bowel movements? How do they look? Are they very dry or very runny? Any blood? Foreign objects? If his stools are irregular, or if this is a new development, I'd definitely say it warrants a trip to the vet.

Get him to your vet immediately, he's the only one who can examine your kitty and check for hidden signs or problems. Don't wait on this, we can't see or diagnose your cat, get him to your vet RIGHT NOW.

any time you are concerned that your pet has been injured, you MUST GET THEM TO THE VET. he is the only one who can find out what the problem is. it sounds like it could be an injury, UTI, etc. go to the vet and make sure it is not something serious.
