Kitten Update

Post by Saphire_1975 »

Some of you may remember me, I posted not to long ago about me taking in a cat that had kitten's the next day :) I am pleased to say that they are all doing great. The baby's are still sleeping alot but I swear are 3 times the size they were at birth, and are starting to play together. My newest question is one of them always seems to be the one getting bullied, she is alway's on the bottom of the kitten pile and often doesn't get to eat untill the other two are asleep. When Mama cat is cleaning her the other two try to push her out of the way, it got so bad yesterday that Mama picked her up and took her out of the box and spent some alone time feeding and cleaning her. She seems to be progressing well she's about one day behind the other two in developing. She's not the runt of the litter, it just seems to me that she's shy while the other two are wrestling for Mama's attention she just seems to stay out of it and patiently waits her turn. What do you guy's think? BTW Mama still won't let me touch them but she does let me babysit while she goes to eat :D carfully checking them for my sent when she returns. My resident cat Sammy is finally getting fixed Monday so in about 2 weeks I plan on introducing him to Mama they seem to realy like each other while on opposite sides of the door.

Sounds like mom has the best interest of the runt at heart. If you like, you can supplement with bottle feeding, but with such an attentive mom it doesn't sound like it is really neeed.

I am curious, you are not trying to put the kittens on the teats are you? They scent the nipple right at birth and will always go to the same one, so pulling them off one thinking you are helping will only upset the balance of the litter during nursing time. There is always a runt in the litter, and it always turns out to be an awesome cat too! :)
