Ok my cat is weird.
He uses his litterbox like a good boy, but he doesn't bury his feces when he's done. The whole downstairs REEKS and sometimes we can smell it upstairs after he goes to the bathroom.
Is there any way to train him to start burying his poop??

i doubt it, one of mine does the same thing...my only guess is that she truely believes her poop doesnt smell good.
it could also be the location of the box, is it private? how thick is the litter bed? is the litter very near the top of the box?

My Gwen does this. Formerly a stray, she's new to the whole inside scene as well as litterbox habits. She took immediately to the box but does not cover up either action. I wouldn't mind but she stinks something fierce and poops the size of her smallest kitten! I can't believe how big her skinny body excretes. The four kittens took to the litterbox without a problem and thankfully cover up when they're done. I'm hoping she'll do the same in time. What's worse is no matter how big the box is or the right level of litter, she goes in and does her businesses right in the front corner each and every time.
Too bad about that cat and no thumbs thing; I'd be teaching them to use the scooper.

The box is in the basement in the laundry room and it has one of those hoods on it. The Litter is only a few inches off the bottom so he has penty of room to dig. I don't fill it up too much cause he doesn't use most of it. He poops in one corner of the box only and pees in the opposite corner. He doesn't cover up either. His poops are BIG too so I really wish he'd put some litter over it. Nothing I do...other than clean it out right away, gets rid of the smell.

Mine will cover her urine, but not her feces. I guess there strange like that.

My newest addition, a former stray, does not cover her poo poo either. She is already sharing a litter box with Chauncey and Chessa, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she somehow learns to cover it by seeing them cover theirs. And I'm with Cleo on this one...I can't believe how much can come out of a skinny, tiny cat!!!!

I'm not fond of covered litterboxes, most cats don't like them. Try taking the lid off. Might also try providing another box....some cats prefer two for their seperate duties. Also consider the litter-type you're using, since he only prefers the corner of the box, this could be indicative he doesn't like the litter, doesn't want to step in it.
Nothing wrong with scooping on a frequent basis if needed. Some cats won't bury their waste due to personal preference.

Hmm a second litter. I don't really have room for another box. I'll have to see if I can find a spot for one.
As for not liking the litter...ya thats possible. I never see any other kinds on the shelves. I'll have to investigate this more.

Well, a couple simple things to try:
1) if using clumping, try using clay litter instead, or vice versa
2) if using scented litter, try using unscented instead
3) I believe petsmart has various sizes of litterboxes, I in fact have a very tiny one for one of my cats, so if you were to use two tiny ones as opposed to two medium or large ones, this would be space-saving, and quicker to clean.
If you don't have a petsmart in your area, try a local pet store instead. Or, you could certainly order online-from petsmart, similar online cat product stores if you like.
