Litterboxes

Post by Raina »

Hello all. :) Lately I've noticed my cat Muffin has picked up a new habit: spraying. She's a female and she was just spayed a few weeks ago. While I am changing the litterbox, she *always* rushes to be the first to get in it and she just pees a small amount. The other day and several times since then I have caught her spraying (she sprays like a male cat does; she doesn't squat but she kind of wiggles her tail) right in front of the litterbox. She will do that and then claw at the carpet around it. She has also been doing this out in our kitchen on a rug out there in a certain spot and sometimes even pooping out there, too. She doesn't have worms or anything like that; she was just checked for that recently when she got spayed (after she had been doing these things) and she didn't have them. I also noticed that my little kitten Tessie (all 3 of my girls were spayed the same day) has been trying to beat Muffin to the litterbox and when she does SHE will spray like a male cat does. Something tells me that it is time for a 2nd litterbox. Muffin seems to be a pretty dominant and jealous cat. I'm also thinking this could be the cause for Muffin's hissing at the other two girls often. I wanted to ask what you guys thought about this, if getting a 2nd litterbox might help or not. :)

Thanks,
Raina

Absolutely, one litterbox per cat is ideal, and strategically placed (in seperate areas)

If Muffin continues to spray and leave accidents outside of the box, do be sure to get her checked for a possible UTI, which can develop suddenly at any time.

Ok, thanks for your advice. :)

Ps. Sorry I accidentally posted it in the wrong forum, I was really tired and must not have been paying well enough attention.
