urinated in dogs bed

Post by Edna's Dad »

Hi.. first time visitor and first time poster. Our 4.5 year old cat Edna had an "accident" last night. She is a very clean indoor cat and she has never done this to my recollection. What's even stranger is she peed on my dog's foam bed. They have a neutral relationship and don't really seem to know that the other exists. Here's another twist.. my wife is 9 months pregnant and due any day. I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with this but I've heard some freaky things about cats and their sense of what's going on in the human body. Thoughts? Similar stories?

btw.. we also took her to the vet last week for a check-up and she's fine.

Help! Help!

My "mean" cat treated me AWFUL both times when I was pregnant! He's mean usually to strangers but ok usually with me. He launched all out attacks on me when I was pregnant. I would have to take a pillow or water bottle with me at night when I would go to the bathroom or he would hide around corners and wait for them, then latch onto my leg like a pit bull! As soon as the babies came, he was fine though. I'd say that probably is whats going on with your cat. Good luck with your cat and your new little one!

Edna's Dad,.....can you think of any unusual event that might have occured prior to the accident? Examples: change in schedule or routine around the home, change in food or litter, even changing the furniture around can cause stress on a kitty.

Your wife's pregnancy may or may not have much to do with the new behavior, unless your wife is stressed and kitty is picking up on that. You can pretty much tell if that is a concern by watching your kitty around her, how she reacts, is she comfortable, content, wanting to bond with your wife, etc.

Thanks for your suggestions. I took her to the vet and she's on antibiotics. We'll know for sure in a few days. In the meantime, is there a product/home remedy that will deter a cat from peeing in the same forbidden place? While I wait to see if the medication works, I'm worried about the carpet!
