My 6 year old cat has a new problem

Post by FelixersMom »

Well, it's a problem to me and my household. I am just hoping and praying it is nothing serious. Please tell me what you think. Lately I have noticed that my cat, Felix, has been dropping pieces of stool everywhere in the house. It started about a month ago, with a piece of stool outside the litterbox every once in a while, but now it is almost everyday. I found some on the stairs last night, and before that there was some on my bed and in my bedroom floor. Well, last night I discovered that Felix had some feces sticking out of his rectum. I tried to wipe it off and he protested greatly. It was like it was stuck there. I know this is gross, but I am really concerned. I was finally able to wipe it off, but he cried a bit when I did. Now before you tell me to take him to the vet, I'll tell you that is not an option. I am unemployed and disabled and can't afford to pay for anything. My dog has had some health issues too, and I've already tried getting help thru the very organizations that I used to donate to when I was healthy and working (I've learned my lesson...they turned their backs on me quickly). Fortunately, I did have someone from an organization come and look at my dog and I found out his situation is not life threatening, although it may be painful. I just hope I can find out that Felix is not in any danger too. I do not want to give him up, but if it means getting my little guy the medical help he needs I will do it. I felt the same way for my dog. I love them and consider them my "kids", but I will not let that stand in the way of helping them to the extent of giving them to rescue and getting them healed, even if it means I'll never see them again. Anyway, that was WAY off the subject. Does anyone know what might be going on with Felix?? Besides this new problem and shedding a lot, he seems to be fine. Very friendly and happy. What's going on???? Thanks for your help.

i suspect that your cat (and i don't see the age) but it usually occurs in cats older than 5 or 6 years, is developing or has Hirsprung Disease or Megacolon, where the inervation to the large colon, the last foot or two of the gut, becomes interfeard with....i know of no home treatment, if that is what it is, excpet to give lots of fiber in its food..You can do this also by adding lots of chopped lettuce into the diet...if you can feel the cats abdomine and you fine a long hard mass, that is what it is...but it takes a little practice to be able to do this...it would be nice to know if this is the problem but with out someone hqaving a little experience there is no way of knowing, only a guess.

He is 6 years old. I am just wondering what to do for him. I've gotten him some different cat food so maybe that will help him some. Thankfully there wasn't a mess last night. I am just hoping it stays that way. Anyway, if anyone has an idea of what is wrong with him, please email me at lemayite@yahoo.com. Thanks.
