Do the hormones stay in the system, in female cats?
I had two females cats spayed in Feb. Since then, they've been caterwauling still... sort of. It's much quieter and out-of-the-blue (not constant), but they're still making exactly the same sort of sounds, and not ones I've heard other cats make (except while in heat). One also "acts" like she did in heat... harder to explain. She's a very skiddish cat in general, so when she was in heat, you'd know it, because she was always in-your-face, demanding to be petted (something she NEVER did out of heat and still doesn't do much). She still does that, although, again, not as badly and only out-of-the-blue. The other one has actually been MORE territorial with our third, spayed (when he was very young) male cat then she was before spaying (she's always been mean with others, but this is MUCH worse). She used to hiss and swat him once in a great while, but now, she'll actually attack him and cause a cat-fight that needs to be broken up by us.
Are these just lasting hormones? How long does it take for the body to be completely rid of the hormones?
Thanks!
How long after spaying...
Re: How long after spaying...
sometimes up to a month,,,but the animals psychi (mind) has a lot to do with it, not just the hormones...
Re: How long after spaying...
I understand that, but what about behaviors that have started AFTER spaying? Also, is it unusual for female cats to continue to sort of caterwauling months after being fixed?
Both the female cats have gotten... quite bluntly, FAT after being spayed (we haven't changed how much food they're given). In fact, they're eating all the food we put out before the boy can even get to it. We're feeding them only once a day, but they'll run to the kitchen when we go near it, and beg for more and even go so far as to try and get food from humans (that we're eating).
How can you put two cats on a diet when there's a third that doesn't need to diet? Seperate bowls in seperate rooms once a day?

Re: How long after spaying...
no matter how you slice it, it is calories in vrs calories out so it is probably up to divine prividence to figure how to keep one cat on a diet or even two when there are mnore than one cat...
it is unusual for cats to continue or start "caterwalling (sp)) after spaying ..only reason i could think of is thaat there may be another cat within a quarter mile ie eat sending out the pheremones....hard to think like a cat
