aggressive cat - help
My almost 10 year old female cat Suzy is getting increasingly aggressive - especially towards my 5 and 3 year old daughters. At first when they told me that they couldn't go up the stairs or walk down the hall because Suzy was going to get them I thought they were being silly. Then I noticed the scratches on their feet and and saw Suzy strike out her paw at them for no reason. The interesting thing is she will only do it if she thinks I'm not looking. My kids have never bothered her and I don't understand why Suzy is doing this. I also have a 7 month old baby on the verge of crawling and I'm very nervous about what will happen when he can get in Suzy's way. His face will be be about the level of Suzy's paws. In addition to aggressive behavior towards the kids, she isn't that great around me. I can't brush her anymore without being hissed at. A friend was over yesterday and Suzy got in lap, let her pet her a few times and then hissed at her. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm considering having her declawed. I know she's old for this, but I can't have a cat who is hurting my kids. Any suggestions?
